IGT Receives Preliminary Sanction for Online Gaming License
International Gaming Technology (IGT) has been given a preliminary approval from the Gaming Commission inNevada. The Control Board for State Gaming has reiterated that other countries have already authorized and regulated online gaming services. IGT is the first gambling operator that has been issued a license by a regulation authority in theUS. The news of the license approval comes a few days after Bally Technologies received a similar approval.
Nevada Gaming Board Chairman Keen on Apt Security Measures
Mark Lipparelli, the Board Chairman of Nevada Gaming Commission, is pleased with the sanction but added that this is only the first step in a long and arduous procedure. The online gambling operator should present its technology and game setup to the testing board in the state.
This is to determine the security of the software where the operator should prove that only players in the state who are above the legal age will be allowed access to the online games. The security issue is one that has been raised frequently considering the legalization of online gambling. Since detractors have been vocal about the loopholes in the lack of safety in online gambling procedures, the Nevada Gaming Commission does not want to leave any stone unturned.
IGT Vice President Thrilled with Sanction
The IGT Vice President, Robert Melendres, is thrilled with the preliminary sanction. He declared that such license approvals from the Gaming Commission inNevadawill help put the state at the forefront of interactive gaming. Melendres added that the company has assigned almost 500 employees to work on the nuances of the business end of online gambling technology.
The gaming operator carries out comprehensive research before it enters a market and sets up shop. According to Melendres, the clearing the legal issue is the first priority of the company before it begins operations in a country. IGT has missed out on several major investments due to the lack of appropriate regulatory setups in the US.
The director of casino operations of IGT, Crystian Terry, has announced that IGT is determined to provide secure and fair online gambling services to its valuable customers. Players will have to provide their names, residential address and date of birth. The company will then authenticate the information through independent verification procedures. Terry has asserted that stringent policies will ensure anti-laundering practices.
IGT Questioned on Previous Acquisitions
Among the many queries of the Nevada Gaming Commission, the recent acquisitions of IGT were brought into light. An online poker system known as Entraction was one of the recent acquisitions of IGT. Entraction, which had a customer base of more than 3.5 million customers, was operating illegally in the US.
Melendres has stated that this fact was not revealed when the company conducted a background check on the online poker system. IGT is currently working with the federal Department of Justice to determine whether any penalty payments have to be made. The Double Down acquisition was also mentioned by the Gaming Commission. Since the site only offers free games, it does not face any legal issues in the country. The final decision on IGT’s gaming license will be taken by the Commission in the last week of June.
William Hill Receives Initial Approval after Extensive Questioning by Gambling Regulators in Nevada
William Hill, the UK-based casino which is authorized and regulated by the Government of Gibraltar, was put through an extensive grilling session by the Nevada Gaming Commission for its online gambling license in the US. The casino site has an enormous internet gambling project which amounts to more than $55 million dollars.
The casino site is looking to set up operations of the three gambling sites it recently acquired. When the company faced the panel, it showcased its large portfolio of services and the security and technological plans it intends to set up if given the chance to provide online gambling to players in the US.
In the recent past, William Hill encountered certain legal issues inAustraliaafter it offered operations to the residents of the country. Mark Lipparelli expressed an opinion whether the online gaming operator will adhere to the laws of theUSand if it can set up adequate anti-collusion and fraud measures.
At the end of the questioning process, which lasted for three hours, the three-member panel gave William Hill a preliminary sanction. Playtech has signed a joint venture with William Hill for the latter to provide its games to players all over the world. When the casino site applies for an online poker license, its merger with Playtech will come under the spotlight.
